Twenty nine. Kamakura

Yesterday, with Julie we went to the old capital Kamakura, it is full of sanctuary and shrines. Friday had been a holiday and the city being a very touristic one, it was packed with tourists, both japanese and foreigners. The morning train to go there from Ofuna was also totally packed, and as predicted everybody got out of the train at Kamakura st. So, being a very touristic city, they had a map in french \o/ (and spanish, and english).

Not knowing by where to start, we randomly picked a direction and headed for the shopping street. After some souvenirs shopping, we ended in the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu shrine. There was also a wedding over there. A lot of people, japanese included were taking picture or even filming, my housemates later explained to me that a lot of japanese haven't witnessed a japanese traditional wedding.

Then, we went to Kenchôji temple, the entrance fee is 300 yen and it is huge, you actually have a hiking course inside. (you gotta love stairs, though). And if the weather is good, you might be ale to see Mt Fuji from the observatory when you get up the stairs. Yet again, it didn't happen for me.

We went to eat some curry soba and took the Kuzuharaoka Daibutsu hiking course, it was a bit longer that I thought it would be (sorry, Julie m(_ _)m )

And, we finally got to our goal, the Daibutsu.

(sorry, I wanted to be a bit of a narcissist and post a blurry picture of myself screaming "tourist" =D)

We ended our tour by the seaside and Yuigahama beach. It was actually pretty cold but the kids apparently didn't mind much.

Also, to the question "what to eat in Kamakura", I had half of the answer when we went out of the Kenchôji temple and everybody was walking and eating these croquette filled with something purple. Sweet potato croquettes are actually delicious.

I had also done some research on the internet before going and read about sweet potato soft ice scream. The weather was not so hot, so at first I was like "nope, nope, not eating that" but I ended up changing my mind by the end of the afternoon and it is delicious!

So basically, if you like food made from sweet potatoes, Kamakura may be your food heaven
